The Crowles with 14 LBS

Since its conception in the winter of 2017, The Crowles began its evolution with Conley Jones and Nick Hurston jamming in what has become affectionately known as the Ritual Room, a large studio formerly occupied by the Oddfellows of Staunton, Virginia, in the 19th century. Over the following months, the addition of Stephen Ruiz and Jon Fuller would turn it into the four-man band it is today, comprised of guitar, bass, keys, and drums. As a single band, they are proficient in multiple genres of music and adopt different identities depending on the style of their original projects.

CONLEY RAY JONES – GUITAR/LEAD VOCALS – Born in Ft. Worth TX, Conley has been singing since the very beginning. Raised on southern gospel, soul, blues, and country, he began playing guitar at age 13 and channeled these styles as his own. Famous guitarists such as Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan influenced his musical development, nurturing a love for rock and roll, soul, and blues from the ‘50s and ‘60s. With an audio engineering career spanning two decades, Conley has also become fond of spooky ‘80s darkwave and even synth pop. taking some of those styles and implementing them into his original work, he wrote his first song at the age of 16 and fell in love with not just music but also its creation, and he hasn’t stopped since. Conley writes and produces his music projects under the pseudonym Doctor Laveau.

NICK HURSTON – BASS/VOCALS – Another Texas native, Nick was born in Corpus Christi but spent most of his childhood on Virginia’s peninsula. In those early years, he was exposed to classic rock, ‘80s pop, and some country over the radio, and played the French horn through grade school (but only because he couldn’t figure out how to make a saxophone work in band class). Years later in the winter of ’98, Nick found himself stranded and carless on college break and decided to pick up the guitar. It wasn’t long before his skills were honed, and influences such as Zeppelin, Prince, Muse, Jeff Buckley, and Talking Heads truly began to make their mark.

STEPHEN RUIZ – KEYS/VOCALS – Born in Charlottesville, Virginia, Stephen began playing keys and singing at the age of four when his mother enrolled him into a children’s music class. Growing up, he was raised and trained classically, his first musical influences being composers such as Bach, Tchaikovsky, and Copland, with elements of orchestral jazz, swing, and opera. It wasn’t until age 10 that he was exposed to rock, pop, and blues, quickly gravitating him towards the styles of Billy Joel, Elton John, and The Beatles. He has infused these styles into his own music since writing his first song at age 12.

JON FULLER – DRUMS – Jon was born in Miami, Florida, but grew up just outside of Baltimore, Maryland. While greatly influenced by The Doors, John Bonham, Dave Grohl, and even Mozart, his first exposure to music came in the form of gospel and bluegrass. First taking up his drumsticks at age 19, it wasn’t long before he was keeping time to the styles he was raised on as well as soul and funk. During the height of American military operations in the Middle East, Jon put his musical talents to positive use by participating in two government-sponsored tours with the USO bringing music to the troops.
